Guests stay about three nights on average and cover most sights on foot, as the centre is small and walkable. You can also get around by bike and bus, and a car is not needed. This list has 882 properties, from a hostel bed to five stars in the very centre. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Ljubljana: the month and day of arrival, the distance from the old town and the standard of the property.
The cheapest month is January, when rates drop by about two fifths against the rest of the year. The priciest is September, at the end of summer and in the festival season, when a room can run a third above the average. Full summer, July and August, is dear too, when demand peaks. The day of the week matters. The cheapest night is Wednesday, midweek, while you pay the most on Friday, as the weekends begin. Ljubljana rewards booking ahead; you catch the best prices about two months out, as rooms in a small city sell out fast.
Ljubljana has a narrower price range than the bigger capitals, but the gap between a hostel and a boutique hotel in the centre is clear. The cheapest sleep is in hostels and three-star places; you pay the most for an apartment and five stars by the old town. Below are indicative nightly rates for two people.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostel bed | from approx. EUR 40 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. EUR 55 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 65 |
| Family room or apartment | from approx. EUR 95 |
| Five-star hotel | from approx. EUR 165 |
Indicative rates for a double room. In Ljubljana the gap between a quiet January and the September peak, and between Wednesday and Friday, can be marked, so check the real price for your dates in the search above.
Most people look for a room in the centre, by the Old Town and Prešeren Square, from where you can walk to the river, up to the castle and to the restaurants. That is where prices run highest, and the best-rated boutique hotels and five stars cluster around the old town. Cheaper are places a little further from the very centre, towards the bus and train station and by Tivoli park, from where the square is still a quarter-hour walk. As the city is small, a longer walk usually lowers the bill more than it complicates sightseeing.
From a hostel bed to five stars in the centre, a few Ljubljana names with a from price. Just a starting point, as rates can climb noticeably in September and at weekends.
| Property | Category | Price per night (from) |
|---|---|---|
| Hostel Sleeping Beauty | Hostel in the centre | from approx. EUR 40 |
| Garni Hotel Cirman | Three-star hotel | from approx. EUR 80 |
| ONE66 Hotel | Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 110 |
| Tivoli Boutique Inn | Boutique hotel by Tivoli park | from approx. EUR 112 |
| Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons | Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 149 |
| DoubleTree by Hilton Ljubljana | Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 175 |
| InterContinental Ljubljana | Five stars in the centre | from approx. EUR 205 |
From prices for a double room. In Ljubljana the same hotel can differ noticeably between January and September, so check your exact dates in the search.
The dearest is September, as summer ends and the city runs its festival and culture season. The second peak is full summer, July and August, when the riverside and the old town draw the most tourists. Cheaper and quieter is late spring, from April to June, and early autumn, with mild weather and fewer crowds. In winter, outside the holidays, prices are the lowest of the year.
January is cheapest, when rates drop by about two fifths. The priciest is September, at the end of summer and in the festival season, when a room can run a third above the average.
The cheapest night is Wednesday, midweek. You pay the most on Friday, as the weekends begin and guests arrive for a short break.
The centre, by Prešeren Square and the Dragon Bridge, is the easiest. From here the old town, the Ljubljanica riverside and the ride up to the castle are all on foot, as the city is small.
The dearest is the very centre by the old town. Cheaper are places a little further out, towards the station and by Tivoli park, from where the square is still a quarter-hour walk.
You catch the best prices by booking about two months ahead. In a small city rooms sell out fast, especially for September and full summer.
The simplest is by shuttle bus, taxi or private transfer. Jože Pučnik Airport lies outside the city, and regular buses link it with the centre.
